 Il mostro del fontanile

La ricchezza di acque risorgive della zona ha generato più di una leggenda. Una tra le più popolari è legata a un fontanile che scaturisce nelle campagne tra Albonese e Cilavegna, dove ora si trova la stazione ferroviaria. Essa ha per protagonisti gli esseri umani e un mostro buono che proprio nel fontanile aveva fissato la sua residenza. Si narra che, in un giorno nevoso, il mostro, anzi, il cucciolo di mostro, serenamente addormentato nel suo letargo invernale sul fondo del fontanile, fosse stato destato da un rumore insolito. Affiorato dallo specchio d'acqua, si era reso conto che il rumore che l'aveva molestato era il pianto dirotto di un bambino che cercava di afferrare un fiocco di neve, pericolosamente proteso verso l'acqua. Il piccolo mostro aveva afferrato al volo il bimbo e l'aveva deposto incolume sulla riva, dalla quale il piccolo si era allontanato in fretta. Il giorno successivo il mostro ricevette la visita della madre del bambino che, per ringraziarlo, aveva portato un cesto di pane bianco. C'è anche chi considerava il mostro del fontanile un vero e proprio orco, che di preferenza gradiva bambini (e adulti) che si macchiavano di malefatte!

Una versione leggermente differente ha invece come protagonista un cavallino nero che poteva sbucare all'improvviso dal bosco della roggia (l'acqua) e costringere i passanti alla fuga scalciando e impennandosi.

In queste favole si rintraccia la tradizione pagana degli "spiriti dell'acqua" e la credenza che alcune presenze incantate presidiassero e proteggessero la comunità.
